• Timely land preparations at least 30 days before on set of the rainfall
  • Plough the land well to achieve a fine seedbed
  • Use well-rotted manure whenever available for plant nutrition
  • Use the right fertilizer type and rates depending on soils e.g. Avoid using DAP in red soils to reduce acidity
  • Plant timely preferably before onset of rainfall for direct planted crops
  • Sow in nursery at least four weeks before transplanting
  • Prepare the nursery near a water source
  • Use only varieties recommended in your region
  • Manage weeds, pests, diseases to avoid losses
  • Consider postharvest handling vital to minimize crop losses in order to maximize profit
